SEA - INDIA ,Safety Engineers Association (India) was started in the year 2000. It is a registered body registered under the societies act 1975.This is a non-governmental organization (N.G.O) working for enhancement of safety awareness.The need for a society for safety professional's was realised by a number of senior safety professionals, and professionals in the field of safety education and thus the safety professionals association came into reality in the year 2000.Then chief inspector of factories, Goverment of TamilNadu ,Dr. M.Lakshmanan, had taken the intiative to form the association. Retd Director of RLI -Chennai, Mr W.A.Balakumaran and senior safety professionals in the field Mr.S.Ulaganathan, Mr.P.Manoharan, and the seven more professionals joined hands and started the association.

Presently, the association has strong membership fleet of over 500 professionals as members representing different disciplines and all parts of the country including some from abroad. We also maintain good collaboration with bodies of similar nature and agencies associated with safety promotional activities, like National Safety Council, Inspectorate of Factories, Universities / Colleges handling safety discipline.

With this strong asset base, SEA (India) is actively involved in extending safety professional services to all agencies which include conducting training programs, safety audits, safety surveys, delivering lectures etc.

SEA(India) is conducting NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health of UK) International General Certificate Course in India. As per MOU with Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute, Chennai – 116, the classes are held at the University premises.

The principal objectives of the SEA (INDIA) are:
  • To serve as vital link for safety engineers at National level.
  • To enable them to work in co-operation to get their objectives fulfilled.
  • To share knowledge and experience which is aimed to protect precious lives, property and environment at all work areas.
  • To interact with other like minded organisations for overall improvement of Safety, Health and Environment.
  • To get due recognition for the safety professionals by improving their image.
  • To provide advice / guidance / help to industries and safety professionals on safety, health and related matters.
  • To assist statutory bodies to enact safety related regulations / standards / requirements etc.,
  • To organise safety programmes as requested by members, industries, Government and other agencies.
  • To contribute to the cause of society in developing the sense of adherence to safety regulations and educating the general masses on various aspects of safety.

To achieve the principal objectives mentioned above, this association will offer the following services to the members and carryout necessary activities in these areas.
  • Membership certificate will be issued to the corporate grade members to recognise their membership.
  • The directory of the members of the association will be updated and issued to each member once in two years and also updated in the association’s website as often as possible in order to help the members to interact amongst themselves.
  • Quarterly Journal will be published and will be supplied free to all the members to disseminate information on Safety, Health and Environment.
  • A Technical Meet will be conducted once every quarter for the benefit of the members.
  • Visit to established industries will be arranged for the members to study and appreciate the safety management system followed there.
  • A Safety expert team will be formed amongst members for taking up Consultancy / Advisory work.
  • Members will be informed about the latest amendments in Factories Act and Rules and other related safety regulations in India, to update their knowledge.
  • Members will be informed about the latest publication on Safety & Occupational Health.
  • Members will get concessional rates for the books published by the association, and assistance will be given to get safety, occupational Health books
  • Members will be informed about typical serious / fatal accident, and their causes and remedial measures etc.
  • Meetings, conference and workshops will be arranged to exchange the experience and views among its members.
  • Training courses will be taken up by the association to promote the knowledge and skill of safety engineers and others concerned.
  • The activities of the association shall be purely on a No Loss / No Profit basis and shall not be motivated for profit.
  • Activities of the association will be expanded to different parts of India by Constituting “Chapters” for covering different geographical areas. But the activities would be confined to the territory of India.
  • Within the chapters “Action Centers” will be formed to cover the interests of bulk of members present in select towns as required.
  • All the chapters and Action Centers so Constituted will be part of SEA (INDIA) and will be managed under the over all control of the Executive Committee.
  • Interact with other safety promotional bodies and share their experience and knowledge.
  • Organise programmes jointly with other associated agencies.
  • Constitute or form a part of Federation of safety professional bodies with similar objectives.
  • To conduct suitable professional courses for members and others interested towards enhancing knowledge and skills in occupational Health and Safety.
  • To propagate safety among general public and conduct programmes in schools, colleges, villages, colonies etc., on topics such as Home safety, electrical safety, fire safety, transport safety, Emergency response Etc. To join hands with social agencies and NGOs in providing relief to victims of mass casualty during natural emergences such as earth quakes, flood, tsunami, epidemics etc.,
